Emerging Artists Exhibit

The Westport Downtown Merchants, Silvermine Arts Center and The Drew Friedman Foundation have established an Emerging Artists Program to recognize artists at the start of their careers who are either currently enrolled in MFA Programs or just graduated.


Awards: One artist will receive a $3000 award and the opportunity to exhibit art the Silvermine Arts Center. There will be two additional awards of $1000.

Jurors

Susan Davidson, Co-curated Robert Rauschenberg: A Retrospective (1997) and Robert Rauschenberg: Gluts (2009) for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, and was assistant curator for Robert Rauschenberg: The Early 1950s (1991), organized by Walter Hopps for the Menil Collection, Houston.

Robin Jaffee Frank, PhD, the Director of Strategy and Development and Board Vice Chair at the Silvermine Arts Center, is also an independent museum curator. She formerly served as Chief Curator at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and curator of American art at the Yale University Art Gallery. She has organized numerous exhibitions throughout the US, and published widely on American visual culture.

Randy Herbertson, President - Westport Downtown Merchants Association

Megan Fox Kelly, a professional art advisor, builds and manages collections for an international mix of individuals, museums, estates and foundations. Her full service advisory business provides curatorial and market advice and museum-quality fine art services for collectors, attorneys, financial advisors and estates.

Requirements for Selected Artists:

  • No artwork substitutions are allowed

  • No accepted artwork may be withdrawn prior to the close of the exhibition

  • Artists must be present at the Emerging Artists Awards Reception, July 19th 7.00pm where winners are announced - Library’s New Riverside Cafe.

  • Artists must be present in the exhibit space either Saturday, July 20, or Sunday, July 21, though both days are encouraged

  • Artists are invited to the awards party Saturday, July 20, 6:00pm

  • Artists receiving awards agree to a brief video interview

  • Artwork must be removed at the end of exhibit Sunday, July 20 after 5:00pm

Artwork

  • Wall-Hung Works: Must not exceed 72” in height or width, including frames; All work must be ready for hanging

  • Sculptures: Should not exceed 72”h x 48”w x 48”d including base

Delivery

Artists will be responsible to hand deliver their work on Friday July, 19, 11:00am - 1:00pm to:

Liability/Insurance

No insurance will be provided by either WDMA/FAF or SAC for artwork. Artwork will be handled with all possible care.
